The town is low and flat, and drainage is its weak point. After heavy rain in July and August, Juran Chhapra, Kalambagh Chowk and parts of Brahmpura can stay waterlogged for a day or more, and a loaded truck is better kept off those roads. The markets are busiest from 10 am to 8 pm, and Kalambagh Chowk and the station road jam at school times. Heavy trucks are generally kept out of the town centre in the daytime, so a big truck works early or late. In the litchi season, May and June, fruit trucks crowd the roads towards the orchards at dawn. Shravan Mondays bring crowds of kanwariyas to the Baba Garibnath temple, and Chhath and Durga Puja close roads near the river and the pandals for several days.

Weather and the months to plan around
Summer, April to June, is hot and humid at around 38°C to 40°C, and the air turns heavy before the monsoon. July and August bring the most rain, and the Burhi Gandak rises, flooding low ground on the town's edge in a bad year. Waterlogged streets in town are an ordinary monsoon problem. Winter is cold and foggy from mid-December into January, with highway visibility falling to very little on some mornings. The easy months are October, November and February.

We watch the forecast and pick a morning after a dry spell, check the approach a day before, and if the lane is under water we use a smaller vehicle or wait. Everything gets an extra plastic layer, and cartons are kept off wet floors. If you can move before July or after September, it is simpler.
Is it harder to move during the litchi season?
Only a little. In May and June the roads to the orchards around Kanti and Mushahari are busy with fruit trucks, mostly early in the morning. Moves in town are hardly affected, and a long-distance load simply leaves at a different hour. The heat in those weeks matters more, so we start early and keep electronics out of the sun.
