Its centre around Khalifabagh, Sujaganj and the clock tower is a knot of market lanes with houses above the shops. Where the truck can stand
The main road through Tilkamanjhi and the road out to Sabour take a full truck. The old market, Nathnagar's weaving lanes and much of the area near the station do not, and the goods leave in a smaller vehicle or on a handcart. In the monsoon, low roads near the river are checked before the day. Parked e-rickshaws and handcarts narrow even the wider roads, so an early start helps everywhere.

Traffic and timing
Market traffic peaks from about 11 am into the evening, and the approach to the Vikramshila Setu is slow at most hours. During the Shravani Mela in July and August, huge numbers of kanwariyas collect Ganga water at Sultanganj, at the western end of the district, and set off on foot for Deoghar, so roads around Sultanganj are closed or crowded for the whole month. Chhath and Durga Puja fill the ghats and markets for several days. Early mornings are the best time to load.

Bhagalpur is hot from April to June, with humid afternoons near 40°C. The monsoon rains are heaviest in July and August, and the Ganga is usually at its highest in August and September, when riverside areas and the diara land across the river go under. Winters are cold and foggy, and the fog is thickest near the river. Outside the foggiest weeks, November to March is the best time to move.

Can you move a weaver's house in Nathnagar, loom and all?
Yes. The household goods move in the usual way, and a wooden handloom can go too if it comes apart, which most do. It is taken apart carefully, each piece labelled, and the frame and beams packed separately. Yarn and finished silk go in sealed cartons so they stay clean and dry. Dismantling a loom counts as carpentry beyond the standard, so it is quoted as its own line.
We want to move in August. Will the Ganga floods stop us?
Inside town, usually not, though low roads near the river and the ghats can be under water for days. If you are moving across the river or to a village in the diara, the flood can close the road for longer. We check the route in the days before and keep your date flexible where we can.
Does the Shravani Mela affect moves in Bhagalpur?
Around Sultanganj and on the roads the kanwariyas use, yes, for the whole month of Shravan. Inside Bhagalpur town the effect is smaller, though traffic is heavier. A move towards Munger or Sultanganj in July or August is best kept off Mondays, the busiest days, and a move to Deoghar that month needs a flexible date.
Can you move us over the Vikramshila Setu to Naugachia or Purnia?
Yes. Naugachia is just across the bridge and Purnia about 100 km, both one-day moves for a 2 BHK. The bridge is the slow point, with trucks queued at busy hours, so we cross early. In the monsoon we check the roads on the north bank, which flood more easily than those in Bhagalpur.
