What moves the price
The six things that decide your bill
Worth knowing before you compare quotes, because this is what a mover is actually pricing.

How much there is to move
This is the biggest single thing. A mover prices the volume your goods take up in the truck, not the number of rooms on paper. Two families in the same 2 BHK can be a 14 ft truck and a 17 ft truck apart, depending on how much furniture and how many cartons there are.

Distance, in bands rather than per kilometre
Nobody charges by the kilometre for a household move. The rate card works in bands, so a 250 km move and a 450 km move cost about the same even though the roads are different lengths. Below 200 km the price stops falling, because a short move is still a full day of crew, packing material and a vehicle.

Floors and lifts at both ends
A third floor with no lift is the most common reason a quote comes in higher than expected. Everything is carried by hand, which means more crew and more hours. If the lift is too small for a sofa or a fridge, that counts as no lift for those items.

How much packing you want
Full packing means we bring material for the kitchen, the wardrobes and the crockery as well as the furniture. If you pack your own clothes and books and leave us the fragile things, the material bill and the hours both come down.

Large or awkward items
A piano, a treadmill, a double-door fridge, a safe or a full-size gym machine needs extra hands, sometimes a crane or a window lift, and always more care. These are quoted as named items rather than hidden in the total.

The date you pick
Month end, the first weekend of the month and the days around a festival are when everyone moves. Trucks and crews are tight then. Midweek and mid-month are easier to book and easier to price.

How accurate is this calculator?
It gives you the range from our published rate card for your home size and distance, narrowed by what you told us about floors, lifts and packing. It is an honest guide, not a quote. The one thing it cannot see is how much you actually own, which is the biggest factor of all, so the real figure is settled after a survey.
Can I use it for any two cities?
Yes. Pick where you are moving from and to, and the calculator uses the road distance from our city pages where we have it, or works one out from the map where we do not. If your town is not on the list, pick the nearest city or type in the distance yourself. For a move inside one city, switch to the local option and the local band applies.
Why is there a range instead of one number?
Because two homes of the same size rarely hold the same amount. The range covers the normal spread between a lightly furnished flat and a fully furnished one. A video walkthrough of your house closes that gap in about ten minutes, and then we put one number in writing.
Is GST included in these figures?
No. The rate card figures are before GST. Moving services are taxed at the rate in force on your invoice date, and it appears as a separate line on the bill along with our GST number, so you can claim it if you are moving for work.
Does the estimate include insurance?
No. Transit insurance is taken separately and priced on the declared value of your goods, so it cannot be worked out from the home size alone. We help you arrange it and explain the cover and the claim process before the move day.
What is not in the number?
AC uninstallation and installation, an extra crew where there is no service lift, a crane or window lift for a large item, octroi or entry taxes in a few cities, and waiting charges if the new home is not ready on the day. Each of these is listed separately in your written quote rather than left to the end.
Should I just pick the cheapest quote I get?
Compare what is in the quotes, not only the totals. A cheap number usually means packing material is billed later, or the price covers a shared load with no fixed delivery date. Ask for the charges itemised, check the company is registered, and look at recent reviews.
