Shifting homes in Nagpur
Nagpur is spread out, and its housing changes ring by ring. The old city of Mahal, Itwari and Gandhibagh is dense, with wadas and narrow houses above shops. West of Sitabuldi, Dharampeth, Ramdaspeth, Shankar Nagar and Civil Lines have bungalows and older apartment blocks on tree-lined roads. Society and building rules
Societies on Wardha Road, at Besa, in Manish Nagar and on Hingna Road usually want a written note to the office or committee, the service lift booked, and maintenance dues cleared before a gate pass is signed. Some do not allow moves on Sundays. Tenants should carry a letter from the owner. Government bungalows in Civil Lines, defence housing at Kamptee and Vayusena Nagar, and WCL and railway quarters go back through an estate office, and the loading date is set around that inspection.

Where the truck can stand
Nagpur is kinder to trucks than most big cities. In the NIT layouts and the newer societies a 17 or 19 ft truck pulls up right outside. Things change in the old city: in Itwari, Mahal and Gandhibagh the lanes are narrow and full of handcarts and goods traffic, so a smaller vehicle carries out to a main road. A few older Dharampeth and Civil Lines gates are too narrow for a big truck, and the metro pillars on Wardha Road and Kamptee Road limit where it can stop.

Traffic and timing
Traffic peaks at Variety Square, Zero Mile, Sitabuldi and Chhatrapati Square and along Wardha Road at office hours, and Kamptee Road carries heavy trucks through the day. Goods vehicles face time limits on the central roads during busy hours, which pushes a large truck to early morning or late evening. On Dhammachakra Pravartan Din at Dasara, lakhs gather at Deekshabhoomi and the roads around it close, and the December winter session of the legislature brings closures around Civil Lines.

Weather and the months to plan around
Nagpur has one of the harshest summers of any large Indian city. May afternoons often pass 45°C, so loading starts at dawn, the crew breaks at midday, and electronics and polished wood are kept out of the sun. The monsoon, mid-June to September, brings heavy spells that can flood the low areas along the Nag river and the underpasses within hours. From November to February the air is cool and dry, which is when a Nagpur move is easiest.
