Shifting homes in Bangalore
Bangalore housing comes in three broad kinds. Gated apartment communities fill Whitefield, Sarjapur Road, Bellandur, Hebbal and Electronic City, many with several hundred flats, a clubhouse and an association that runs the gate. The older BDA layouts such as Jayanagar, JP Nagar, Banashankari, Rajajinagar and Malleshwaram are independent houses on 30 by 40 and 40 by 60 ft plots. Across Koramangala, HSR Layout and BTM Layout, owners have put up three and four storey buildings with a rented flat on each floor, a narrow staircase and often no lift.
Each kind asks for a different crew. A tower move turns on the service lift and the slot the association gives you. A rented floor in HSR means a long carry down a staircase barely wider than a fridge, so beds and wardrobes are opened up before they leave the room. An old house in Jayanagar or Basavanagudi usually holds the most: teak cupboards, a loft full of trunks, brass and steel from three generations, and it is often packed over two days.
People arrive for the tech parks on the Outer Ring Road, in Whitefield, at Manyata and in Electronic City, and for the older employers, HAL, BEL, BEML and ISRO, along with IISc and the defence establishments at Yelahanka, Jalahalli and the Cantonment. They leave just as often, for a new job or to go home. Packers and movers charges in Bangalore
Distances inside Bangalore look modest on the map and feel long on the road. Whitefield to Koramangala is about 20 km and Hebbal to Electronic City nearer 35 km, and either can take two hours in a loaded truck on a weekday. A 2 BHK is still packed, moved and unpacked in one day when the start is early. Time goes at the Silk Board, Marathahalli and K R Puram junctions, in the wait for a service lift, and on the staircase of an HSR rental building. A full independent house usually needs two days.

Whitefield and Varthur Road
Large gated communities with service lifts and a strict move slot. Varthur Road and ITPL Main Road crawl for much of the day, so the truck is booked for an early start.
Bellandur, Marathahalli and Sarjapur Road
Towers next to the tech parks, several with loading bays. Office traffic on the Outer Ring Road decides the hour we arrive, and a heavy shower can shut its low stretches.
Koramangala, HSR Layout and BTM Layout
Rented floors in three and four storey buildings, most without a lift. Cars line both sides of the cross roads, so a tempo shuttles between the door and the truck.
Jayanagar, JP Nagar and Basavanagudi
Independent houses on tree-lined roads. The houses are full, so packing takes longer than loading, and a big one runs into a second day.
Electronic City and Hosur Road
Townships and company housing beyond Silk Board. The elevated tollway gets a loaded truck out quickly, but the Silk Board end can hold it for an hour at peak time.
Hebbal, Thanisandra and Yelahanka
The north side, near Manyata Tech Park and the airport road. Newer towers with good access, and air force and defence quarters that follow their own handover dates.

Society and building rules
Associations in the gated communities want a move-out request some days ahead, and many raise the gate pass through MyGate or a similar app once the maintenance account shows nothing due. The service lift is booked for a slot, moves are usually allowed only in daytime hours, and several communities do not allow shifting on Sundays. Some take a refundable deposit against damage to the lift and lobby, and a tenant may need the landlord's written consent. In an HSR or BTM rental building there is no office, but the landlord will want to walk through the flat before returning your deposit.

Where the truck can stand
Gated communities have space inside the gate, though the walk from the loading point to the far towers can be long. The difficult streets are the cross roads of Koramangala, HSR, BTM and Indiranagar, where parked cars on both sides leave room for one vehicle, and the old market lanes around Chickpet and Avenue Road, packed from morning to night. In those streets the truck waits wherever the road opens up, and a tempo does the back and forth to your gate. In the older layouts, low branches and cables can catch a tall container truck, so we check the height of the approach.

Traffic and timing
The city bars heavy goods vehicles from many roads during the morning and evening rush, so a large truck works around those hours. The worst junctions are Silk Board, the Marathahalli bridge, the Hebbal flyover and Tin Factory at K R Puram, and the Outer Ring Road is slow in both directions from about 8 am. A move that starts at 7 am and is loaded before noon misses most of it. Ganesh Chaturthi immersions, the Karaga procession in the old city and the Kadalekai Parishe in Basavanagudi each close roads for a night or a day.

Weather and the months to plan around
Bangalore is mild for most of the year and rarely goes much above 35°C even in April, so the rain needs more planning than the heat. Pre-monsoon storms in April and May and the heavy spells of September and October arrive in the late afternoon, and the low stretches around Bellandur, Sarjapur Road and Silk Board can flood within an hour. We aim to have the truck closed before the evening clouds build, and mattresses and sofas get a plastic layer under the outer wrap. December to February, dry with cool nights, is when a move here is easiest.

I rent a floor in an HSR Layout building with no lift. Can you still get my fridge and wardrobe down?
Yes. The wardrobe is taken apart in the room, and the fridge goes down upright on carrying straps with three people on it. If a sofa or a double door fridge will not clear the landing, we see that at the survey and plan to lower it from the balcony on ropes, which goes into the quote. We also check whether your cross road has room for the truck or needs a tempo.
Can I move during the September and October rains?
Yes. Job changes do not wait for dry weather. Every carton and piece of furniture gets waterproof sheeting inside its wrapping, the truck carries a tarpaulin, and we try to finish loading by early afternoon, before the usual evening downpour. If you live near Bellandur or off Sarjapur Road, tell us, because a heavy spell can close the low roads there for a few hours.
I am being transferred out of HAL, BEL or ISRO. Can you give me the papers my office needs?
Yes. You get an itemised inventory, a written quote and a GST invoice in your organisation's name, which is what a reimbursement claim generally asks for. If you are in company or defence quarters, give us the date they must be vacated and we plan the packing so the keys go back on time. A car can go on a carrier and reach you separately.
