House shifting in Kothrud
Kothrud is one of the most densely built parts of Pune and almost none of it was laid out for a moving truck. Karve Road and Paud Road carry heavy traffic from early morning, and the residential lanes behind them are narrow with cars parked on both sides. The move itself is rarely long, but getting the vehicle to the door and away again is the part that takes planning.
The housing is mostly older societies from the eighties and nineties, four to seven floors, with lifts that take people comfortably and furniture badly. A lot of our work here involves dismantling a wardrobe or a bed that has stood in one place for two decades, and carrying the pieces down a staircase that turns twice on every floor.
Families here tend to move within Kothrud or to the adjoining areas rather than out of the city. A flat gets redeveloped, the children need a bigger room, or a parent moves in and the house needs rearranging. Those are short moves with a lot of goods, which is the opposite of the Hinjewadi pattern, and they are priced on volume rather than distance.
Internal lanes in Mayur Colony and around Paud Road are narrow with parking on both sides, so a large truck often has to stop on the main road. Quieter internal roads and a mix of bungalows and low-rise societies. A mid-size truck can usually reach the gate.
Mayur Colony

Karve Road
Heavy traffic from seven in the morning. Loading here is an early-morning job or it holds up a bus lane.
Paud Road
Similar to Karve Road but with more shops below the flats, so the pavement is usually occupied and the carry is longer.

Well connected for a truck coming from the highway, and the easiest point in Kothrud to bring a large vehicle to.

The lane to my building in Mayur Colony is too narrow for a truck. What do you do?
We park the main truck at the nearest point it can stand safely and bring a Tata Ace or a pickup down the lane to your door. It means two short trips instead of one long carry. We look at the lane during the survey and put the shuttle in the written quote.
How early can you start a move in Kothrud?
