Shifting homes in Ajmer
Ajmer sits in a bowl of the Aravallis, with Taragarh on the hill above it and the Anasagar lake at its edge. The old city climbs towards the Dargah of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti through Dargah Bazaar, Nala Bazaar and Diggi Bazaar, where lanes are narrow and busy all day. Around it are the railway colonies near the station, Civil Lines and the Mayo College side, and the newer colonies of Vaishali Nagar, Panchsheel, Adarsh Nagar and the Pushkar Road area.
Much of Ajmer's housing is independent houses and government and railway quarters, many with high ceilings, deep verandas and old wooden furniture. That makes the survey worth doing, because an old almirah or a large bed may not fit a modern flat at the other end. Near the Dargah, access matters more than size: vehicles are held back from the bazaars through the day, and during the Urs much of the area is closed to them.
Ajmer is a government and railway town. North Western Railway's Ajmer division and its loco and carriage workshops, the Rajasthan Public Service Commission, the Board of Secondary Education and the Board of Revenue all transfer staff in and out. Schools such as Mayo College bring teachers, and Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University brings faculty. The Dargah and nearby Pushkar keep a large hospitality trade going, and many young families leave for Jaipur.

Packers and movers charges in Ajmer
Ajmer is small enough that most moves inside it are under 10 km, Vaishali Nagar to Adarsh Nagar or Civil Lines to Pushkar Road, and a 2 BHK needs just the one day. Kishangarh is about 30 km away and Pushkar about 15 km over the Nag Pahar road, and both are day jobs too. The old city is the slow part, and in the week of the Urs a move there is best left for later.

The lanes leading to the Dargah are crowded with pilgrims and shops. Vehicles are held back, so loading is early and short trips bring goods out to the truck.
Vaishali Nagar
A planned colony, mostly houses with a few flats. The roads are broad, and a full-size truck fits outside nearly every home.
Civil Lines and Mayo Link Road
Older bungalows and government houses with big rooms, heavy furniture and long driveways. The truck gets in easily, and it is the packing that takes time.
Railway colonies near the station and workshops
Quarters for railway staff, handed back on a set date. Loading is planned around the vacating process and the colony's own rules.
Panchsheel and Adarsh Nagar
Housing board and private colonies with first-floor portions and outside stairs. Parked cars in the lanes can keep the truck at the corner.
Pushkar Road and Kotra
Newer houses and apartment blocks on the western side, along the road that climbs over Nag Pahar towards Pushkar.

Society and building rules
Railway and government quarters come with their own handover: the date you must vacate, a check of the fittings and sometimes a no-dues form, so the packing happens the day before and the loading on the morning itself. Private houses mean a landlord, so settle the rent and bills and hand over the keys with the crew still there. The few apartment societies on Pushkar Road and Jaipur Road want a note to the office and cleared maintenance before goods leave.

Where the truck can stand
A full-size truck reaches most colony addresses. The old city is harder. Dargah Bazaar and the lanes off it take nothing bigger than a small tempo, and at busy hours not even that, so the truck stands near Delhi Gate or on a wider road and goods go out by hand or handcart. Some houses on the hill side towards Taragarh sit on steep lanes. Pushkar's lanes near the ghats are also narrow, and its main road is busy with visitors.

Traffic and timing
The Urs at the Dargah, six days each year on dates set by the Islamic calendar, fills the old city and the roads from the station with pilgrims, and goods vehicles are kept out of the area. The Pushkar Fair in October or November does the same to Pushkar Road. Thursdays and Fridays are busier near the Dargah. On ordinary days Jaipur Road, Station Road and the stretch past Madar Gate are slowest in the evening, so we load early and finish by afternoon.

Weather and the months to plan around
Ajmer is hot and dry from April to June, with May afternoons around 42°C to 44°C and gusty, dusty winds, so loading starts early and electronics stay out of the sun. July to September brings moderate rain, and after a heavy spell water collects on the low roads along the Anasagar escape channel. Winters are cool, with cold nights in December and January. October to March is the easiest stretch, as long as the date misses the Urs and the Pushkar Fair.

Moving from Ajmer to another city
Transfers drive much of the movement here: railway staff, board and commission officers, teachers and bank employees arriving from other Rajasthan cities and leaving for the next posting. Jaipur is the usual next stop and close enough to finish in a day, with Jodhpur and Udaipur not much further. Delhi, Ahmedabad and Mumbai take people further afield.

Can you move a house near the Dargah during the Urs?
It is better not to try. During the Urs the lanes around the Dargah are full of pilgrims day and night, and goods vehicles are kept out. The dates move about eleven days earlier each year because they follow the Islamic calendar, so check them before you fix a date. Just before or a week after, we work early in the morning with a small vehicle.
I work for the railways in Ajmer and have been transferred. Can you pack from the workshop colony quarters?
Yes. Give us the date the quarters are to be vacated and your new station. We pack the day before, load on the morning of the handover, and prepare the inventory and GST invoice the way your office needs them for the transfer claim. On a long move the load gets a consignment number you can track.
Is a move to Pushkar or Kishangarh a local move?
Yes. Pushkar is about 15 km over the Nag Pahar road and Kishangarh about 30 km, so either one is finished between morning and evening. In Pushkar the lanes near the lake and ghats are narrow and busy with visitors, so a smaller vehicle may do the last stretch, and the fair weeks in October or November are best avoided.
We are moving to Jaipur. Can it all happen on the same day?
Yes. Jaipur is about 130 km on NH 48, two to three hours for a loaded truck. Loading finishes by late morning and the unloading is done in the afternoon or early evening. Check your new society's shifting hours in Jaipur before the date, since a lot of towers there allow moves only in daytime and want the service lift booked.
