Shifting homes in Jaipur
Jaipur grew in rings around the walled city that Sawai Jai Singh laid out in 1727. Inside the walls are havelis and shop-houses on the narrow rastas behind Johari Bazaar, Tripolia and Chandpole. Beyond them come the bungalows of C Scheme, Bani Park and Civil Lines, then the planned colonies built from the 1960s onward, Malviya Nagar, Jawahar Nagar, Mansarovar and Vaishali Nagar, where most homes are independent houses or small blocks. The newest ring is towers, in Jagatpura, along Tonk Road past Sanganer, on Ajmer Road and on Sirsi Road.
Each ring asks for a different kind of move. In the walled city the question is how close a vehicle can come, because the bazaars are wide but the rastas off them are not, and old staircases are steep and turn sharply. A house in Mansarovar or Malviya Nagar is usually a ground floor with a first-floor portion let out, which means an outside staircase and heavy wooden beds and almirahs. The towers have service lifts, a maintenance office and a shifting slot to book.
People come to Jaipur for the state government, for North Western Railway's headquarters and the Army's South Western Command, for the IT campuses at Mahindra World City and for the jewellery and stone-cutting units at Sitapura. They leave for Gurgaon, Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore. Packers and movers charges in Jaipur
Most moves inside Jaipur are 10 to 20 km, Vaishali Nagar to Malviya Nagar, say, or Mansarovar to Jagatpura, and a 2 BHK goes from first carton to last unloaded piece in one day. A walled city home takes longer because the load leaves the lane in several small trips. Crossing the city at the wrong hour costs more than the distance does: Tonk Road at Gandhi Nagar, the Sodala and 200 Feet stretch of Ajmer Road and the Gopalpura bypass all back up in the evening.

Walled city: Johari Bazaar, Chaura Rasta and Kishanpol
The bazaar roads are wide, but the rastas behind them take a small tempo at most. Our truck stays outside the walls near Sanganeri Gate or Ajmeri Gate.
C Scheme and Bani Park
Older bungalows with large rooms, heavy teak and sheesham furniture and a garden full of pots. Roads are wide and shaded, so the truck stands at the gate.
Malviya Nagar and Jawahar Nagar
Sector colonies of independent houses where the upper portion is often let. Outside staircases and cars parked along the lanes decide the crew and the vehicle.
Mansarovar
A very large planned colony along New Sanganer Road and the metro line. Plots are small and lanes straight, and most of them take a mid-size truck.
Vaishali Nagar and Ajmer Road
Houses and small blocks in Vaishali Nagar, then towers along Ajmer Road past the 200 Feet bypass, most of them with a service lift and a booked slot.
Jagatpura and Tonk Road
Newer towers near the railway line and Sitapura. In buildings handed over recently, the builder's office may still hold the lift keys, so we ask who books it.

Society and building rules
Societies in Jagatpura, on Ajmer Road and along Sirsi Road usually want a written request to the office, maintenance dues cleared and a booking for the service lift, and some take a refundable deposit. If you rent, the owner may have to tell the office that you are leaving. Independent houses have no office, but the landlord will want the keys back and the meters read, and a new landlord may ask for police verification of a tenant, so keep your ID papers handy on the day.

Where the truck can stand
In the colonies the truck parks outside the house, though in Malviya Nagar and Raja Park the lanes are lined with cars and it may have to stand at the corner. The walled city is different. Its bazaars carry heavy foot and scooter traffic from late morning, and a full-size truck cannot turn into the rastas at all, so it waits outside the walls near a gate while a smaller vehicle brings the goods out in trips. Towers have loading space inside the gate once the guard has the pass.

Traffic and timing
Jaipur's roads are slowest in the morning office rush and again from late afternoon, worst at Tonk Phatak, Jawahar Circle, Sodala and the Chandpole and Choti Chaupar end of the old city. Heavy goods vehicles face entry limits through most of the daytime, and a big truck is booked around them. The Teej and Gangaur processions close Tripolia Bazaar and Choti Chaupar for an evening each, the weeks before Diwali pack the bazaars, and winter weddings fill Tonk Road and Ajmer Road after dark.

Weather and the months to plan around
May and June are the months to plan around, with afternoons above 44°C and dust storms that blow up with little warning in the evenings. We pack early, and televisions and polished furniture wait in the shade until the truck is ready. The monsoon, July to mid-September, comes in short heavy showers that leave underpasses and low roads under water for an hour or two. December and January mornings are cold and sometimes foggy. The easiest months are October and November, then February and March.

Do you have an office in Jaipur?

Can you shift a haveli or flat inside the walled city?
Yes. We come early, before the bazaars fill, and park the main truck outside the nearest gate. A smaller vehicle shuttles between your rasta and the truck, and furniture that will not turn on an old staircase is taken apart upstairs. Tell us the rasta and the floor at the survey. Avoid Teej and Gangaur days and the fortnight before Diwali, when the old city is too crowded to work in.
I am being transferred out of Jaipur by the railways or the army. Can you work around the quarters handover?
Yes. The loading is planned backwards from the date your quarters have to be vacated, and the inventory and GST invoice follow the format your office asks for. Military station addresses need the crew and truck details for an entry pass, so send us the date as soon as the posting order arrives. A consignment number lets you track the truck all the way to the new station.
Can you move us from Jaipur to Gurgaon or Delhi?
Yes. Gurgaon is about 240 km up NH 48, so a home packed in the morning reaches the new flat that evening. Trucks are let into Delhi mostly at night, so a load for Delhi is usually delivered late or first thing the next morning. Book the lift slot with the new society before you fix the date, because many Gurgaon towers want the truck number a day ahead.
