Shifting homes in Kota
Kota's housing is shaped by its coaching institutes. Talwandi, Rajeev Gandhi Nagar, Indra Vihar, Coral Park and Landmark City across the Chambal are full of hostels, paying guest rooms and flats rented by the year to parents who came with their children. Older family areas such as Vigyan Nagar, Mahaveer Nagar and Dadabari have independent houses, and the bazaars of the old city lie around Rampura and the Kishore Sagar lake.
Two kinds of move follow from that. A student leaving a hostel has a mattress, a cooler, a study table, cartons of books and perhaps a cycle, usually from a floor with no lift, and wants it sent home to Bihar, Uttar Pradesh or Madhya Pradesh. A family flat holds a year or two of household, packed up once the exams are over. Houses in Vigyan Nagar and Mahaveer Nagar are ordinary family moves with heavy furniture and a truck at the gate.
Beyond coaching, Kota has the thermal power station on the Chambal, the DCM Shriram works, Chambal Fertilisers at Gadepan and the atomic power station at Rawatbhata, all of which move engineers in and out. Rajasthan Technical University and the University of Kota add staff and students. Coaching families usually head home when the course ends, and working families leave for Jaipur, Delhi and Indore.

Packers and movers charges in Kota
Kota is compact. Talwandi to Landmark City is about 12 km over the Chambal, and Vigyan Nagar to Dadabari a few kilometres. A hostel room takes an hour or two to pack and load, and a family flat is a single day's work. The flyovers and underpasses built in the last few years have made crossing the city quicker. Time goes on stairs, on lanes blocked by students between classes, and on the dates that bunch up in May and June.

Areas we cover in Kota

Talwandi and Indra Vihar
Hostels and PG rooms four or five floors up, often without a lift. The floor decides the crew size, and the lanes fill with students at class times.
Landmark City and Kunhari
The newer coaching area across the Chambal, with hostels and rented flats. Move-outs bunch up after the entrance exams, so those dates go early.
Rajeev Gandhi Nagar and Coral Park
Hostels and family flats around the institutes. Internal roads are narrow and crowded, so a smaller vehicle often suits better than a big truck.
Vigyan Nagar and Mahaveer Nagar
Established family colonies with independent houses and wide roads. The truck stands outside, and heavy furniture is what takes the time.
Dadabari
Older residential area of houses and small apartment blocks near the main road, where the truck parks on the road and loading starts early.
Old city around Rampura
Market lanes busy from late morning. A small vehicle ferries goods out to wherever the main truck has room to stand.

Society and building rules
Hostel owners want the room inspected and the keys back before they return the security deposit, so ask for the check the evening before and keep the receipt. Some have fixed hours when vehicles may come to the gate. Societies in Landmark City and the newer blocks want a note to the office and dues cleared before goods leave. For a flat rented by the year, the owner will usually want to see it empty before the deposit comes back.

Where the truck can stand
Coaching areas are the tight spots. Talwandi, Rajeev Gandhi Nagar and Coral Park have narrow internal roads, parked scooters and a stream of students on foot, so a full-size truck is parked out on the main road and we bring a smaller vehicle up to the hostel door. For a single room we send a small vehicle in the first place. The family colonies have space at the gate, and Landmark City's roads are wider than those of the older areas.

Traffic and timing
Classes start and end at fixed times, and the coaching roads fill for half an hour around each change, so we time the loading between batches. Heavy vehicles are limited on the main roads through the day. The National Dussehra Fair in October brings weeks of crowds and traffic around the fair ground. May and June are the busiest weeks for moves, once the entrance exams end and new students arrive, so book those well ahead.

Weather and the months to plan around
Kota is one of the hottest cities in Rajasthan, with May and early June afternoons often past 45°C, so loading starts at dawn and a stair carry is paced with breaks. The July to September monsoon brings Kota more rain than the west of the state gets. When the Chambal runs high and the barrage gates open, low areas near the river can flood, and wet-weather packing needs a plastic layer. October to February is the easiest time, apart from the Dussehra fair weeks.

Moving from Kota to another city
Students arrive from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and beyond, and go home when the course or the exam is done, often with a parent's household. Plant engineers, lecturers and government staff move on to Jaipur, Indore and Delhi. A room's worth of things going far may travel cheaper as a part load, if one happens to be heading in that direction.

I am leaving my hostel after the exams. Can you send my things home?
Yes. Cartons of books, a mattress, a cooler and a cycle make a small job. We pack in the room, carry it down and send it by the vehicle that suits the distance. For a long run we check whether a part load is heading to your state, which costs less and takes longer, though it cannot be promised. In May and June, give us a week's notice.
We rented a flat in Kota for our son's coaching. Can you move us back after his exams?
Yes. A family flat is packed like any other home, the kitchen, beds, cooler and study things all listed on an inventory and taken back to your home town. Tell us the result dates and any counselling trips, and we will fit the packing around them so the flat is empty before the owner wants it back.
Can you move us to the townships at Rawatbhata or Gadepan?
Yes. Gadepan is a little over 30 km and Rawatbhata about 50 km from Kota, so both are done in a day. Plant townships have their own gates and security rules, and the atomic power station at Rawatbhata is strict about who comes in, so send the entry requirements early. We share the truck's registration, the driver's details and every crew member's name before the day.
Does the Chambal flooding affect moves in the monsoon?
Only in the low-lying areas near the river, and only when the barrage gates are open after heavy rain upstream. If you live near the river, we keep the date flexible in August and September and check the roads that morning. Everywhere else, the monsoon means more plastic in the packing and a slower carry on wet stairs.
