Shifting homes in Thrissur
Thrissur is built around a hill. The Vadakkunnathan temple and the Thekkinkadu Maidan sit on it, the Swaraj Round circles them, and the main roads run out from the Round like spokes. Close in, the old streets hold shops, gold showrooms and old houses. Further out, Punkunnam, Ayyanthole, Poothole, Kuriachira and Patturaikkal are residential, with large independent houses and a growing number of towers, and the town thins into paddy and coconut towards Mannuthy and Ollur.
Money and gold have long been Thrissur's business. South Indian Bank, Dhanlaxmi Bank, CSB Bank and KSFE have their head offices here, alongside a web of chit funds and finance companies, and small gold jewellery workshops around the town supply shops across Kerala. Bank staff transfer in and out all the time. The Kerala Police Academy at Ramavarmapuram, the Agricultural University at Vellanikkara, the Medical College at Mulankunnathukavu and the engineering college bring trainees, faculty and students, and Kalamandalam at Cheruthuruthy draws artists.
Houses here are often family houses, large and furnished over generations, with heavy rosewood, glass-fronted showcases and a prayer room full of lamps and pictures. Many belong to families with members in the Gulf or abroad, and a move can mean sending part of a house to a son's or daughter's flat in Kochi or Bangalore. Packers and movers charges in Thrissur
Thrissur is compact. Punkunnam to Mannuthy is about 8 km, and Ayyanthole to Ollur around 7 km, so a two bedroom home is loaded and delivered in one day. The drive usually goes through or around the Swaraj Round, which is slow at office hours, and the roads leading into it narrow sharply. A big family house often takes a day and a half, most of it spent packing showcases and cupboards. Guruvayur and Irinjalakuda, each around 25 km out, are still same-day moves.

Swaraj Round and the old town
Shops, gold showrooms and old houses on the Round and the streets off it. Stopping on the Round is not possible, so loading happens from side streets at dawn.
Punkunnam and Poothole
Residential areas west of the Round near the railway station, with houses and apartment blocks. Narrow cross roads mean a smaller vehicle for some addresses.
Ayyanthole
The civil station and collectorate area, with government offices, quarters and newer flats. Wide roads, and heavy traffic at office hours.
Kuriachira and Ollur
Older neighbourhoods to the south with large family houses and streets built around their churches. Feast days bring crowds and closed roads.
Mannuthy and the bypass
Newer houses and flats along the Palakkad road near the university campus. Easy highway access, with lorries on the bypass all day.
Viyyur and Chembukkavu
Residential areas north of the Round, with houses up gentle slopes and lanes of every width. The survey decides whether a 14 ft truck reaches the gate.

Society and building rules
Towers in Punkunnam, Ayyanthole and along the bypass want the association told a few days ahead, the maintenance settled and the move done by daylight. A tenant should get the owner's consent in writing early, since the owner may be overseas. Independent houses have no office, but lanes are shared, and neighbours appreciate a word before a truck blocks one for the morning. Bank-leased flats, Police Academy housing and university quarters are all inspected before handover, each by its own rules.

Where the truck can stand
The Swaraj Round is one-way, packed and without anywhere to stop, and the old streets leading off it are narrow. Lorries load from the nearest side road while a smaller vehicle does the shuttling. The residential areas have lanes between compound walls, often wide enough for a 14 ft truck but not for it to turn. Mannuthy, Ayyanthole and the bypass layouts let a full-size lorry come right up to the house.

Traffic and timing
Thrissur Pooram, in April or May, is the day and night to keep clear. The Round and every road into it close for the procession, the Kudamattam and the fireworks, and the sample fireworks a few days earlier also draw crowds. On the fourth day of Onam the Pulikali tiger dancers take over the Round in the afternoon. Church feasts at Ollur, Kuriachira and the Lourdes Cathedral fill their streets for a day or two. The rest of the year, Sakthan Nagar, the Round and the bypass are slowest at 9 am and 5 pm.

Weather and the months to plan around
The southwest monsoon hits Thrissur hard between June and September. Low ground by the Kole wetlands and some roads around Sakthan Nagar and Poothole waterlog after heavy rain. The October and November rains follow. Humidity keeps wood and fabric damp, so they are wrapped carefully and loaded last. March and April are hot, around 35°C, and Pooram falls in that heat. December to February, dry and bright, is when moving is simplest.

Can I move out of a house near the Swaraj Round in Pooram week?
Not on Pooram day or the day after, when the Round and every road into it are closed and packed with people. The sample fireworks a few days earlier also draw evening crowds. Earlier in the week a morning move can work, but it is simpler to choose a date a week away. Pooram falls in April or May, and we check the date at booking.
We are sending part of our family house to our son's flat in Bangalore. Can you split the load?
Yes. During the survey we mark which pieces go and which stay, and the travelling items are packed, labelled and listed on their own inventory. Bangalore is about 480 km through Coimbatore and Salem. The association at his flat will have move-in rules and hours, so send them to us and we time the delivery to fit.
Our lane in Kuriachira is too narrow for a truck. What happens then?
The lorry waits on the nearest broad road and a smaller vehicle comes to your gate, making as many trips as needed, with the crew carrying heavy pieces out to it. That takes longer than loading at the gate, so the extra hours are in the quote. On a church feast day the lanes are closed, so we choose another date.
Is Thrissur to Kochi a one-day move?
Yes. Kochi is about 80 km down NH 544, past the Paliyekkara toll, so packing in the morning and unloading in the afternoon is normal for a two bedroom home. The Kochi end usually takes longer, with a tower's service lift and association slot to fit, so send us the rules of the new building and we set the start time from them.
