Shifting homes in Roha
Roha is a taluka town on the Kundalika, run together with Ashtami across the river as one municipal council that dates back to 1865. It is also where the Konkan Railway begins, at the junction with the line from Panvel. Housing is a mix of old tiled houses and two-storey homes in the town, apartment buildings put up for plant staff, and village houses spread through the paddy fields and the hills of Kalasgiri.
The Dhatav MIDC, a few kilometres from town, is a chemical and pharmaceutical estate, and its units take safety seriously. A truck going to a staff colony inside needs clearance in advance, some units restrict which vehicles may enter, and a crew without passes waits outside. In town the difficulty is different: narrow lanes near the river and the old market, where a truck cannot turn, and the bridge to Ashtami, which a big vehicle crosses slowly.
Chemists, engineers and operators come to Roha on postings from the chemical belts of Gujarat and Maharashtra and leave for the same places, with Vapi, Ankleshwar and head offices in Mumbai common next stops. Kolad, upriver, draws weekend visitors for rafting on water released from the Bhira power station, and its farmhouses and resorts need furnishing. Local families send their young to Navi Mumbai and Mumbai for jobs, many on the trains from Roha.

Society and building rules
Apartment societies in Roha and Ashtami want the secretary informed, dues paid and the move done in daytime. MIDC company flats are handed back through the unit's admin office, which inspects them and issues a gate clearance slip. Railway quarters follow the railway's own process. Tenants in private flats should get the owner's consent on paper, as the society may want to see it. An old house in town needs only the family's say, and a friendly warning to anyone sharing the lane.

Where the truck can stand
A 17 ft truck manages the main road, the MIDC and most society compounds in Ashtami. In the old town by the river the lanes are barely a car's width, with overhanging balconies and tight corners, and a pickup does the shuttling. At the MIDC the truck parks where security directs, which may be a walk from the door. At Kolad the tracks down to riverside farmhouses are unpaved and slope towards the water, and in the monsoon they are no place for a loaded truck.

Traffic and timing
Shift changes at the Dhatav units put buses and bikes on the MIDC road twice a day, and the bridge between Roha and Ashtami backs up at school and office hours. Weekends bring visitors to Kolad and the rafting points. Ganeshotsav fills the town with processions and NH 66 at Kolad with traffic. Weekday mornings after 9 am, once the shift traffic has passed, are generally the easiest time to move.

Weather and the months to plan around
The Kundalika is a monsoon river. From June to September heavy rain on the hills sends it up fast, and in the worst spells it floods the low parts of Roha and the fields around Kolad. Humidity stays high for months, so wood and upholstery get a moisture layer and electronics are sealed in. April and May are hot, often in the high 30s. The months from November to February, dry and pleasant, are the ones to choose.

What do the Dhatav MIDC units need before the truck arrives?
Each unit sets its own rules, but most ask for the lorry's number, a copy of the driving licence, the crew's names and often ID proofs several days before the move. Some allow only certain vehicle types inside, and a few want an escort. Send us the unit's requirements at booking, and we bring a truck that is allowed through, so the move does not stall at the gate.
Our house is in the old town near the river. Can a truck get there?
Rarely to your door. The riverside lanes have balconies overhead and corners no truck can take, so it stays out on the main road while a pickup runs back and forth. We look at the lane over video before quoting, and those extra runs are in the price. Starting early keeps the lane clear of market traffic.
I am moving to Ankleshwar for a new job. Can you handle it?
Yes. Ankleshwar is about 450 km away, so the goods are on the road for a day or two after loading, with a consignment number and updates. Plant housing there usually has its own gate rules, so send us the new address and requirements early. If the new employer is paying, the invoice and inventory carry its name.
We are furnishing a farmhouse at Kolad. Can you deliver in stages?
Yes. Each delivery is quoted as its own trip, so furniture can come as the rooms are finished. The track to many riverside plots is unpaved, so we check whether the truck can reach the house or has to stop at the road.
