Danavaipeta and Prakash Nagar are the central residential areas, and the city has spread away from the river towards Morampudi, Lalacheruvu and the national highway.
The river brings the city's biggest events and some of its work. Every twelve years the Godavari Pushkaralu draw vast crowds to the ghats, and each monsoon the flood levels are watched closely at the Dowleswaram barrage just downstream. ONGC runs a large base here for its Krishna Godavari basin operations, the paper mill has worked for decades, and the Kadiyam nurseries to the south sell plants across India. GSL Medical College and Adikavi Nannaya University bring students.
Housing is a mix of old family houses near the river, apartment blocks of four to six floors in Danavaipeta and Prakash Nagar, and new gated layouts along the highway. The old houses are deep and full: teak cots, brass vessels, rice bins and cupboards of saris and silver, and a single house can take a full day to pack. People leave for Hyderabad and Bangalore for work, for Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada on transfer, and ONGC staff go wherever the next posting is.

Apartment blocks in Danavaipeta, Prakash Nagar and the highway colonies want notice to the secretary, maintenance cleared and the lift used in daytime hours, and tenants need the owner's go-ahead. Old houses near the river have no association, but they often share a wall and a lane with neighbours who should be told. ONGC and irrigation department quarters are returned through estate offices that inspect first, so our loading day falls just before theirs.

Where the truck can stand
Along the highway and in the newer colonies a truck has all the space it needs. The old core around Main Road, Innespeta and the ghats has narrow streets, shops on both sides and constant two-wheeler traffic, so a tempo ferries the goods out to wherever the truck could find room. Near the ghats, during Pushkaralu or big festivals, vehicles are kept out entirely. On the bridges themselves a truck cannot stop.

Traffic and timing
The Godavari Pushkaralu, every twelve years, close the ghat roads and much of the old town for twelve days, and a move near the river is planned around them. Karthika month brings crowds to the ghats and temples for dawn baths, and Sankranti is the Godavari districts' biggest celebration, with relatives arriving from everywhere. Traffic builds at Morampudi junction and on Main Road at office hours. Weekday mornings are the easiest.

Rajahmundry's summer is fierce and humid, with May afternoons around 44°C, so the crew loads early. The Godavari rises in July and August, and in a heavy flood year low areas near the river and the lankas downstream go under water while roads near the ghats close. October and November bring cyclone rain from the Bay, milder here than on the coast but enough to halt loading. December to February is dry and mild.

Near the river, yes. For the twelve days the ghat roads and much of the old town close to vehicles, and the city fills with pilgrims. A move in Morampudi or on the highway side can still go ahead with care, but anything near Main Road or the ghats should be planned for another week.
I work with ONGC and have been transferred. Can you work with my quarters handover?
