Vizag is squeezed between the Eastern Ghats and the sea, and a good part of it is built on slopes. Apartment towers face the water along Beach Road and fill MVP Colony, Siripuram and Seethammadhara, while the older town near the port and Jagadamba has close-built houses and shops. North of the city, Madhurawada, PM Palem and Yendada have filled with high-rise societies near the IT hills and the cricket stadium, and to the south west, Gajuwaka and the steel township house the industrial workforce.
The slopes decide a lot. A house on the Waltair Uplands or below Kailasagiri may sit up a long flight of steps, and a loaded truck parked on a steep road needs its wheels chocked and a driver who knows the lane. The sea air is the other constant. Gajuwaka and Ukkunagaram

Society and building rules
Societies in MVP Colony, Madhurawada and along Beach Road want a written request, the maintenance account settled and a booked slot on the service lift, and several allow shifting only in the day. A tenant may be asked for the owner's letter. Naval, port and steel plant housing runs on procedure: a gate pass for vehicle and crew, an inspection of the rooms, and keys surrendered on a fixed date, and our loading is booked around each of those steps.

Where the truck can stand
Main roads take a 17 ft truck, but the side streets climbing into the hills are another matter. Parts of the Waltair Uplands, the lanes below Kailasagiri and some colonies in Yendada are steep and narrow, and a loaded long truck can neither turn nor stop safely on them, so a smaller vehicle handles the slope. The old town near the port is cramped too. Parking on Beach Road is restricted, and the truck loads from a side street.

Traffic and timing
Traffic is heaviest at NAD Junction, Maddilapalem, Gurudwara Junction and on the Gajuwaka stretch at office and shift-change times. Navy Day on 4 December brings rehearsals and a display on RK Beach, and Beach Road closes for them. Simhachalam's Chandanotsavam fills the roads to the hill temple, and the Kanaka Mahalakshmi festival in Margasira crowds the old town. Loading that begins by 7 am on a weekday avoids most of this.

Weather and the months to plan around
The air is humid in every season, and April to June turns muggy, around 35°C to 38°C with the odd hotter spell. The southwest monsoon is moderate here. The months that need planning are October to December, when Bay of Bengal depressions and cyclones can bring days of rain and wind, and Hudhud shut the city for days in October 2014. We widen delivery windows in those weeks and pack everything against damp. January and February are the calmest months.

Is it risky to move between October and December?
It can be, because a cyclone or a deep depression can bring days of rain and close the coastal highway.
