Shifting homes in Raipur
Raipur has grown into two cities. Around it are the colonies that grew after Raipur became the state capital in 2000: Shankar Nagar, Devendra Nagar, Telibandha, Samta Colony and the gated townships along VIP Road and at Kamal Vihar. Naya Raipur, now officially Nava Raipur Atal Nagar, lies about 25 km away and holds the Mantralaya, the directorates and new government housing.

In the colonies and townships access is easy, and the day turns on the lift slot, the society's permission and the furniture. Society and building rules
Gated townships on VIP Road and at Kamal Vihar want a move request some days ahead, a lift booking and a clear maintenance account before the gate pass is issued, and tenants can expect to show written consent from the owner. Government housing in Shankar Nagar and Naya Raipur is released through the estate office after an inspection, and at a new allotment the guard may want to see the allotment letter. Independent houses in the colonies need nothing beyond the landlord's agreement and paid bills.

Where the truck can stand
Raipur's colonies and townships give a 17 ft truck a clear run to the gate. The old markets are another matter: lanes around Sadar Bazaar, Gol Bazaar and Budhapara are narrow and lined with handcarts and two-wheelers, so the truck is left on the GE Road or another wide road while a pickup works them. Naya Raipur's roads are wide and nearly empty, and parking is never a problem there. Heavy vehicles keep to set hours on the city roads, and a load crossing Raipur end to end is timed around them.

Traffic and timing
Office traffic peaks at Jaistambh Chowk, Ghadi Chowk, Telibandha and Tatibandh from about 10 am and again from 5 pm. Rajyotsava, the state's foundation celebrations in early November, draws crowds to Naya Raipur, and Ganesh and Durga Puja immersions close central roads for an evening each. A cricket match at the Naya Raipur stadium fills the roads out there for the day. Loading goes fastest early on a working day, before the office rush.

Weather and the months to plan around
Raipur's summer is severe, with May afternoons at 45°C or more and warm nights, so the crew starts early and electronics never sit in a closed truck. Heavy rain arrives in mid June and stays until September, and a big downpour floods the low pockets of the old city and a few new colonies. Upholstery, mattresses and wood get a plastic layer. Dry, sunny days with cool mornings come from November to February, the best stretch of the year for a move.

I have been allotted a house in Naya Raipur. Can you move me from the old city?
Yes. The run is about 25 km, so the truck is filled before lunch and emptied at the new house by late afternoon. The guard at the new sector will want the allotment details and house number, and if you are leaving a government quarter in the city, the date of its inspection sets our loading. Both ends fit into one day.
Our home is in Budhapara, off the old bazaar. How do you get the goods out?
Those lanes will not take a truck. It is parked where the road widens, and from daybreak a pickup ferries the goods out to it, before the market wakes. Heavy furniture is opened up inside where it comes apart. A short video call from your door to the main road lets us count the trips before we quote.
Can we move in Raipur during the rains?
It slows things but rarely stops them. Every carton and piece of furniture gets a plastic layer, the truck carries a tarpaulin, and loading pauses in a heavy burst. If your house is in a low part of the old city that takes water, tell us, and we will pick a morning when the water has gone down.
Our township on VIP Road only allows moves on certain days. Can you work to that?
