The South East Central Railway runs its zone from here, South Eastern Coalfields has its head office on Seepat Road, and the High Court of Chhattisgarh sits at Bodri, outside the city. Each has brought its own housing: railway colonies around the station, a large SECL colony, and government and judicial quarters. The old city lies along the Arpa, with Sarkanda on the far bank, and newer colonies have spread along the Raipur, Seepat and Mungeli roads.
For a move, that makes Bilaspur a city of quarters and handovers. Railway, SECL and court housing each has an office that inspects the quarter, reads the meters and takes back the keys, and the loading day works back from that appointment. The old city lanes around Gol Bazaar and Sadar Bazaar are tight, with homes above shops. The newer colonies, from Rajkishore Nagar to Mangla, are independent houses and low apartment blocks, easy to reach and quick to load.

Society and building rules
Bilaspur has plenty of quarters and few societies. Railway housing is vacated through the division's engineering staff, SECL housing through the colony's estate office, and court and government quarters through their own departments, each with an inspection, meter readings and a no dues step before the keys go back. The loading date follows from that. In the colonies a tenant needs only the landlord's go-ahead and settled bills, and a few apartment blocks ask for notice and cleared maintenance.

Where the truck can stand
The railway colonies, the SECL colony and the newer areas have roads built for a 17 ft truck. The market streets around Gol Bazaar and Sadar Bazaar are narrow and crowded all day, and some lanes in Sarkanda and the older neighbourhoods are no better, so a pickup makes the final run there. Vyapar Vihar fills with goods trucks by mid morning, and a truck loading nearby has to be quick about it.

Traffic and timing
Navratri draws large crowds to the Mahamaya temple at Ratanpur, 25 km north, and the Ratanpur road is slow for those days. In the city, Durga Puja pandals and immersion processions close central roads for an evening each. Traffic is heaviest around the station, the old bus stand and the Arpa bridges at office and school hours. Loading is quickest early in the day, before those hours begin.

Weather and the months to plan around
Summers in Bilaspur rank among the hottest in Chhattisgarh, with May afternoons often around 45°C, so the heavy lifting is done in the morning and a loaded truck never waits in the midday sun. Mid June to September brings heavy rain, the Arpa rises, and low parts of the city take water after a big storm. Wood, upholstery and cartons get a plastic layer. Between November and February the air is dry and cool, and moving is at its easiest.

Do you handle railway transfers from the zonal headquarters colonies?

Your office gets the inventory and GST bill in the form its claim asks for. The consignment number shows where the load is, and a car or bike goes by carrier, apart from the goods.
Our house is near Gol Bazaar. Can a truck get to it?
Not while the market is open. The truck parks wherever the street first opens up, and a pickup reaches your door early, before the shops do, and ferries the goods out.
