The town itself grew around TP Nagar, Kosabadi and the old Korba basti, with houses, shops and newer apartment blocks filling the land between the plants.
Moves here very often start or end in a company quarter. Each township, whether NTPC, BALCO, the state power company or an SECL project colony, runs its own estate office, gate passes and inspection, and they do not share paperwork, so moving from one plant's colony to another's means clearing two offices. Quarters range from workers' blocks with shared stairs to officers' bungalows with gardens. Outside the townships, the town's own houses are low, a storey or two behind a gate.
Coal and fly ash are part of daily life. Every township here runs its own vacating process. The estate or township office inspects the quarter, electricity and water are read, dues and any damage are cleared, and the keys are handed back against a no dues certificate. If the next quarter is in another township, it needs its own allotment letter and pass. Gate security at the plants wants the crew list, identity details and the truck number in advance. In the town, the owner's agreement and settled bills are enough.

Where the truck can stand
In the townships, broad roads let a 17 ft truck park outside nearly every quarter. The older power colonies and the lanes around TP Nagar and Kosabadi are tighter, and there a pickup runs goods to a truck on the main road. The roads to the mines and plants carry heavy tippers and trailers day and night, so a truck loads inside a colony gate or on a side road, never on the coal road itself.

Traffic and timing
Shift changes at the plants and mines bring buses, two-wheelers and tippers onto Power House Road and the colony approaches in waves, at dawn, in mid afternoon and again late at night. Loading between them avoids most of it. Coal traffic on the roads towards Champa and Katghora is heavy around the clock and slows a loaded truck leaving town. Durga Puja and the township festivals close internal roads for an evening. A late weekday morning is often the quietest window.

Weather and the months to plan around
Korba bakes in May, with afternoons at 45°C and more. Monsoon rain falls hard on these forested hills from mid June to September, the Hasdeo runs high, and coal dust and ash turn to black mud on the roads near the mines. Packing gets a plastic layer against both rain and dust. November to February is cooler and drier, and those are the months to pick for a move.

Yes. Each township clears its own gate, so the crew list, identity details and truck number go to both security offices a few days ahead. The NTPC estate office inspects the old quarter, and the new one is taken over on your allotment letter. We time the day so neither gate keeps the loaded truck standing.
Will coal dust get into our things during the move?
It will settle on anything left open, so the packing stays closed. Cartons are taped as they are filled, sofas and mattresses are stretch-wrapped under a cover that is removed only indoors, and electronics go in bags before their cartons. On a windy day the truck doors are kept shut between loads.
My posting is to another coalfield or power station. Can you handle a long move from Korba?
