Shifting homes in Mathura
Mathura is a temple town, a refinery town and a garrison town at once. The old city runs from the Krishna Janmabhoomi down to Vishram Ghat and the Dwarkadhish temple, with tall houses in lanes that take a handcart and little else. Refinery Nagar houses Indian Oil staff in planned quarters, the Cantonment is home to a large army formation, and the Delhi highway is lined with new colonies and apartment blocks.
Vrindavan, about 12 km up the road, has changed faster than Mathura. Ashrams and temples still fill the old town, but Chhatikara Road and the ISKCON side are now lined with apartment societies, many bought by families from Delhi and beyond for retirement or long stays. Those towers work like any NCR society, with gate passes and lift bookings, while the parikrama lanes of old Vrindavan barely take an e-rickshaw.
Work here means the refinery, the army, GLA University and the colleges on the highway, the temples and the pilgrim trade, and the saree printing units. People arrive on posting to Refinery Nagar or the Cantonment and leave on the next one, and families who have worked elsewhere for years come back to settle near the temples.

Society and building rules
Most Mathura homes are houses without a society office. Refinery Nagar and the Cantonment have their own handover process, with the quarters inspected and the keys returned on a set date. The Vrindavan apartment societies, many managed by the builder, want a move-out form, the truck number, the crew list and cleared dues, and a few ask for a lift deposit. Ashrams and dharamshalas that rent rooms check the room before you leave.

Where the truck can stand
The highway colonies and the townships take a 17 ft truck easily. The old city does not. Around Vishram Ghat, Chowk Bazaar and Holi Gate the lanes are narrow and full of pilgrims and cattle, so the crew carries to a small vehicle while the truck stands on a main road. In Vrindavan, lanes near Banke Bihari are closed to vehicles for much of the day, and a move there starts at first light.

Traffic and timing
The calendar matters more than the clock here. Janmashtami, in August or September, fills Mathura for days, Holi brings crowds to Barsana, Nandgaon and Vrindavan for a week or more before the day, and the Govardhan parikrama around Guru Purnima closes roads to the west. Weekends are slow in Vrindavan all year. On an ordinary weekday, a morning start avoids the worst of the highway traffic.

Weather and the months to plan around
Mathura is hot and dusty, with May and June afternoons above 45°C. Rain arrives in July and is done by September, heavy while it lasts, and the Yamuna can rise high enough to flood its banks near the ghats. Fog sits over the highway and the Yamuna Expressway in December and January, slowing trucks to Delhi and Agra. Outside the festival dates, October, November and February are the most comfortable months.

If your home is near the temples or in Vrindavan, yes. Through Janmashtami and Holi week, roads near the Janmabhoomi, Dwarkadhish and Banke Bihari fill with pilgrims and vehicles are kept away, so choose a date a few days either side. In Refinery Nagar or the highway colonies, the festivals slow the roads but the move goes ahead.
Do you move families into the Vrindavan apartment societies?
Yes. Tell us the society and tower, and we find out the builder's rules for moving in: the form, the gate pass, the lift booking and any deposit. A load coming from Delhi or Noida is packed in the morning and reaches Vrindavan by evening, in time for most societies' shifting hours.
Can you handle a transfer out of Refinery Nagar?
