Shifting homes in Aligarh
Aligarh has two centres, divided by the railway line. To the north is the AMU side, with the university campus, the medical college, Civil Lines and colonies like Sir Syed Nagar, Dodhpur and Medical Road. To the south is the old city around Upper Kot, crowded with houses, lock workshops and markets. Newer ADA colonies and apartment blocks have grown along Ramghat Road and on the edges of town.
The university drives a lot of Aligarh's moves. AMU faculty and staff move between campus quarters and private houses, and students move in and out of hostels and rented rooms around Dodhpur and Shamshad Market at the start and end of every session. Those are small loads. The old city moves are harder: heavy family homes, narrow stairs and lanes where a tempo is the biggest vehicle that fits.
Aligarh's other trade is locks and hardware, made in small units across the old city and along the GT Road side, and many trading families still live in houses their grandparents built. Jobs in Delhi and Noida, a few hours away, pull the younger generation out, and government transfers bring officers through the district offices and the railway.

Society and building rules
Few Aligarh homes have a society office. The newer apartment blocks off Ramghat Road want notice, the truck number and cleared dues. AMU quarters are vacated through the university's own process, and railway and district officers' residences have their own handover. Hostel students need a clearance from the warden before the room is released. For a family house, telling the neighbours is enough.

Where the truck can stand
A 17 ft truck fits the campus roads, Civil Lines and the Ramghat Road colonies without trouble. Dodhpur and the lanes near Shamshad Market are tight and full of two-wheelers, so a 14 ft truck or a tempo does better there. The old city around Upper Kot is steep and narrow, and goods go out by handcart to a truck waiting on Railway Road or GT Road.

Traffic and timing
Centre Point, Sasni Gate, Rasalganj and the Railway Road crossings are congested all day and worst in the evening. Heavy vehicles are kept off the city roads for much of the day. The Numaish, the long-running winter exhibition held every January and February, brings evening crowds and traffic around its grounds. Session starts in July and exam ends in May bring a rush of student moves near the campus.

Weather and the months to plan around
Aligarh summers are hard, with May and June above 45°C and a hot, dry wind, so we load early and keep the midday hours for driving. The monsoon from July is humid, with waterlogging in the old city and near the railway after heavy rain. Winter brings fog that thickens in late December and January, and trucks crawl on the GT Road and the Yamuna Expressway. October, November and February suit a move best.

I am moving out of AMU campus quarters. What do you need from me?
The date the quarters have to be handed back, and any entry arrangement the university needs for the truck and crew. We pass on the vehicle number and names in advance. The inventory and the invoice are made out for your reimbursement, and the delivery at the other end is planned from your joining date.
Session is over and I am leaving my Dodhpur room. Can you take my things?
Yes. Books, a mattress, a cooler and a few bags need only a small vehicle, and one fits the lanes. Get the hostel or landlord clearance done first. For a move home to another city, ask early in May and we will see whether the load can share a truck heading that way, which is never guaranteed.
Can you shift a house in Upper Kot?
Yes. The lane and the stairs are looked at on video first. Beds and almirahs are dismantled indoors, then carried or handcarted down to a wider road, where the truck is loaded. Start early, before the old city markets fill, and a family house can still be finished in a day.
We are relocating from Aligarh to Delhi or Noida. How quickly can it be done?
Packing and loading take the morning. Greater Noida is about 110 km and Delhi about 140 km, so a load for Noida arrives the same afternoon. A truck for Delhi waits for the night-time entry hours and unloads late that night or early next morning, depending on what your building allows.
