Kurkumbh is a village on the Solapur highway in Daund taluka that has grown around a large chemical and pharmaceutical estate. The MIDC holds chemical and drug makers and their suppliers, and many units run day and night. The village sits below a hill topped by the Phirangai Devi temple, with older houses along its lanes and newer buildings of rented rooms and small flats that went up as the plants took on staff.
Housing here is thin, and many people live elsewhere and travel in. Shift workers rent rooms in Kurkumbh village and at Patas, officers and senior staff often live in Daund, 15 km north, or in Baramati, and some plants keep guest houses and staff flats. So a move is often small: a furnished company flat left with a few cartons, a bed and a fridge, or a room emptied at the end of a contract. Families in the farming villages around make up the full household moves.
Chemical and pharma plants hire chemists, process engineers, safety officers and operators, and those skills travel well. People arrive from the chemical estates of Gujarat, from Hyderabad's pharma companies and from towns across Marathwada, and they leave the same way for the next job. The new employer usually fixes the joining date, so the move is planned backwards from it.

Kurkumbh village to the plant colonies is a couple of kilometres, Patas is a few kilometres west and Daund about 15 km north, so every move here is a day's work, and a single room or a staff flat is often done by lunchtime. The slow part is the gate, where a truck without clearance can wait for hours, and the highway, where tankers and trucks run nose to tail. A farming family's house with a full store room is the one move here that can take a second day.

Society and building rules
Company flats and guest houses are returned through the plant's admin or HR office, which checks the furniture and fittings it supplied against a list. Keep that list handy, since those items stay behind and only your own things are packed. Rented rooms in the village and at Patas go back to the owner, who will want the rent and electricity settled before returning the deposit. Very few buildings here have a society office. Company housing inside the estate needs the gate pass before the truck arrives.

Where the truck can stand
Estate roads are wide and built for tankers, so a truck of any size can move once it is inside the gate. The village is tighter, with narrow lanes near the temple hill where a tempo does the door. On the highway a truck cannot stand to load, so a roadside house at Patas is loaded from a side lane. Farm addresses on the Daund road are easy in dry weather. At a chemical plant, security may keep the truck away from process areas, and it stands where it is told.

Traffic and timing
The Solapur highway carries heavy traffic at all hours, and the stretch past Patas and Kurkumbh is thick with trucks and tankers. Three times a day a shift change floods the estate roads with buses and bikes. The temple's yatra and Navratri bring crowds to the village. In June or July the Tukaram palkhi travels this highway through Yavat and Varvand, and traffic is diverted for a day. A weekday move, loaded after the morning shift change and gone before the evening one, goes smoothest.

Weather and the months to plan around
Rain is light around Kurkumbh, coming mostly as short, heavy showers between July and September that leave the village lanes muddy for a day. Summer is the harder season: April and May afternoons pass 40°C, the highway is dusty, and the crew starts at 7 am, keeping electronics and anything with wax or soft plastic out of the sun. Winters bring dry days and cool nights, and a move between November and February meets the least trouble.

What does plant security need before a truck enters the Kurkumbh MIDC?
Expect to send photo ID for every crew member, the driver's licence and the registration number to your HR or security office a day or two before. Some units also want a company person to accompany the vehicle inside. Tell us the rules when you book, and the details go ahead so the truck does not wait at the gate.
My company flat is furnished. How is the move quoted?
On what you actually own. At the survey we list your things and leave out the company's beds, wardrobes and appliances, so the quote follows the smaller load. A furnished flat often needs only a small vehicle. Where the company is footing the bill, it can be named on both the quote and the GST invoice.
Can chemicals or lab samples go with my household goods?
No. Chemicals, solvents, fuel and filled gas cylinders cannot travel with household goods, whatever the quantity. Anything from the plant should go back through your employer. Medicines, cosmetics and cleaning liquids for home use are packed upright and sealed, and we tell you at the survey if anything else has to stay behind.
I have a new job in Hyderabad. How long will my goods take?
Hyderabad is about 480 km by road, so goods that set off in the evening normally reach you in about two days. You are given a consignment number and kept updated while the truck is on the road. Gated communities in Hyderabad set their own move-in hours, so tell us the building's rules and we time the arrival to them.
