Shifting homes in Phaltan
Phaltan was the seat of the Naik Nimbalkar family, and the old town still spreads out around their Rajwada, with narrow streets of two storey houses and shops. Around it, new colonies of bungalows and row houses have spread towards Kolki and along the roads to Baramati, Satara and Lonand. Apartment buildings are few and mostly small, so moving here usually means a house with its own gate and a short carry.
Sugar built the town. The old factory at Sakharwadi and the cooperative factories nearby employ large numbers in the crushing season, and water from the Nira canals has made the taluka rich in cane, fruit and vegetables. The Nimbkar agricultural research institute has worked here for decades. More recently engineering plants have come up on the edge of town, and their engineers and technicians arrive on transfer with small households and fixed joining dates.
Moves here split along the same line. A farming or business family shifting within the taluka moves a full house, often with grain, tools and years of stored things. A plant engineer moves a couple of rooms into a rented flat or company housing, and later out again. Society and building rules
There are not many formal societies here. Company housing and the plants' own colonies have security gates, and they ask ahead of time for the vehicle registration, a copy of the driving licence and a list of the crew, plus clearance from the admin office. The few apartment buildings in town ask for a note to the secretary. Tenants in private houses should agree the handover and the deposit with the owner well before the day.

Where the truck can stand
In Kolki, the industrial belt and most newer colonies a big truck has space to stand, and houses often have a compound it can enter. The old town around the Rajwada is tighter, with shops, handcarts and parked two-wheelers, so a smaller vehicle comes in and the truck stands outside. Field roads to farmhouses are usable in the dry months, but after rain the truck halts where the tarmac ends and the crew goes on foot.

Traffic and timing
The cane crushing season, roughly November to April, fills the roads around the factories with tractors pulling double trailers, slowest near Sakharwadi and the factory gates. In June or July the Sant Dnyaneshwar palkhi, on its way to Pandharpur, halts at Lonand and Phaltan, and roads through both towns close to traffic while the warkaris pass. Check the palkhi dates before fixing a move in those weeks. Otherwise, mornings are the easiest time.

Weather and the months to plan around
Phaltan lies in the rain shadow east of the ghats, and its monsoon is light and patchy, so rain seldom holds up a move. Heat is the bigger issue. April and May reach about 40°C, and loading starts at dawn with long breaks in the afternoon. Humidity is low, which suits wooden furniture. Between November and February the weather is kindest, though those months overlap with the cane season.

Will the palkhi affect my moving date in Phaltan?
It can. When the Sant Dnyaneshwar palkhi passes through on its way to Pandharpur, usually in late June or early July, roads through Lonand and Phaltan are closed or crowded with warkaris for a day or two. We check the published dates and keep the truck off the route on those days, so pick a date on either side.
I am joining one of the plants here. Can you move me in before my joining date?
Yes. Give us the joining date and the address of the company flat or rented home, and we work backwards from it. Coming from another city, your load gets a consignment number with updates on the road, and if your employer reimburses the move, the GST invoice can carry the company's name. Plant security will want the truck number and crew list, which we send ahead.
Can you shift us between Phaltan and Baramati?
