Shifting homes in Greater Noida
Greater Noida was planned on a bigger scale than its neighbour, with broad roads, green belts and sectors called Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, Chi, Phi, Mu and Omicron. The older core around Pari Chowk and Jagat Farm is plotted housing, with independent houses of two or three floors and authority flats. To the north-west, Greater Noida West, which most people still call Noida Extension, has grown into dozens of high-rise societies, many handed over only in the last few years.
The two halves make for different moves. A plotted house in Beta 2 or Gamma 1 has space outside for the truck and a lot to pack, often a heavy double bed and a steel almirah on every floor, plus a terrace store. In Greater Noida West the building is new and the lift works well, but the society may still be run by the builder, and each one writes its own rules for moving in and out.
Work and study fill the city. The LG, Yamaha and New Holland factories and the Ecotech and Kasna industrial estates employ engineers and supervisors from all over India. Knowledge Park and the Yamuna Expressway side hold Sharda, Galgotias, Bennett and Gautam Buddha universities and a long list of engineering and management colleges, so students arrive in July and leave in May and June, a room at a time.

Greater Noida is spread out. A move from Greater Noida West to a house in Delta 1 is 20 to 25 km, much of it on wide sector roads, and a 2 BHK still fits in one day with time to spare. Knowledge Park I to V

Pari Chowk and Jagat Farm
The roundabout and the Jagat Farm market slow every vehicle in the evening, so homes nearby are loaded early in the day.
Omicron, Chi and Phi
Newer plotted sectors and small societies with open roads and room for a truck to turn, but a long drive from the markets.
Yamuna Expressway sectors
Plots and new societies beyond Pari Chowk towards Jewar. Some approach roads are unfinished, so the route is checked before a full-size truck goes in.

Society and building rules
Greater Noida West societies are young, and many are still maintained by the builder, whose office issues the move-in and move-out passes. Expect a form, a copy of your ID, the crew list and the truck number, and in some towers a refundable deposit for the lift and the lobby. The pass is released once the maintenance dues are paid up, and tenants need the owner's consent in writing. Colleges and PG owners want a hostel clearance before a student's room is released.

Where the truck can stand
Outside the old villages, every road here takes a full-size truck, and most societies have a service gate for it. The long carry is inside: some towers stand well back from the service gate, so we count the trolley trips when we size the crew. Surajpur and Kasna villages have narrow lanes where a tempo does the last part. In Greater Noida West, service roads are sometimes blocked by material for buildings still going up.

Traffic and timing
Evening jams build at Pari Chowk, Char Murti and Gaur Chowk, and on the Noida Greater Noida Expressway heading towards Noida between 5 and 8 pm. Sunday is the favourite shifting day in the big societies, so lift slots go early and a weekday is often quicker. Events at India Expo Mart in Knowledge Park II fill the roads nearby for days, and so does admission season at the colleges.

Weather and the months to plan around
Summer is hard here. Afternoons in May and June touch 46°C and dust storms blow in off the open land, so loading starts early. In the monsoon, parts of Greater Noida West and a few underpass roads hold water after heavy rain. December and January bring fog that can sit on the Yamuna Expressway into late morning, which slows a truck heading for Agra or Lucknow. October, November, February and March are the gentle months.

Graduates leave Knowledge Park for jobs in Gurgaon or Bangalore, factory staff move on transfer, and families from Aligarh, Agra and Bulandshahr settle here for the space. We are in Greater Noida West and the builder still runs our society. What do we need for a move?
Go to the builder's maintenance office first. Clear any pending maintenance, fill in the move-out form and ask for a slot on the service lift. The office will want the vehicle registration and the names of the crew, which we share a day ahead. If you rent, bring the owner's letter. A refundable deposit is common in these societies, so ask about it early.
Can you move a student's room from Knowledge Park at the end of term?
Yes. A bed, a study table, a trunk and some cartons make a small load. Get the hostel or PG clearance done first, since many colleges will not let luggage out without it. For a room travelling home to another state, call us early in May, because the end of the academic year is when these moves bunch together.
Does fog on the Yamuna Expressway delay a move to Agra or Lucknow?
It can, from mid-December through January. Speeds on the expressway drop sharply on foggy nights and mornings, and we would sooner wait for visibility to improve than drive a loaded truck through it. For a move in those weeks we give you a delivery window with a spare half day built in.
My house in Beta 1 has a terrace full of old things. How long will packing take?
Plan on a separate packing day for a plotted house of two or more floors. Terraces and store rooms here collect cycles, coolers, trunks and broken furniture, and it pays to decide what stays behind before we arrive. Show us everything on the video survey, so the truck and the crew are sized right and the loading day does not stretch.
