Shifting homes in Haridwar
Haridwar is really several towns strung along the Ganga and the canal. Around Har ki Pauri and the Upper Road bazaar, houses stand shoulder to shoulder with dharamshalas and shops, reached by lanes no wider than a cycle rickshaw. Kankhal, to the south, is quieter, with ashrams, old family houses and courtyards. Jwalapur is the older trading town beside it. Towards the Delhi road, the BHEL township at Ranipur is a planned grid of sectors with quarters for the plant's staff, and beyond it Shivalik Nagar and the colonies near SIDCUL hold newer houses and rented flats.
So a Haridwar move depends on which of those towns you live in. In the old city the truck stands well back on the main road, and every carton is carried or rickshawed to it, often down steep stairs in old houses. BHEL quarters and the colonies of Shivalik Nagar have wide roads and a gate for the truck, and the only fixed point is the date the estate office sets. Factory staff at SIDCUL tend to rent furnished or half-furnished flats, so their moves are lighter and quicker.
BHEL's heavy electrical plant at Ranipur has brought engineers from across the country for decades, and its transfers still come and go. SIDCUL brought a second wave, with Hero MotoCorp's plant and the pharmaceutical and consumer goods units that followed. Patanjali's campus at Bahadrabad, Gurukul Kangri University and Dev Sanskriti University add teachers, staff and students, and the ashrams draw long-stay residents. People leave mainly for Delhi NCR, Dehradun and the cities of western Uttar Pradesh.

Packers and movers charges in Haridwar
Haridwar stretches along the river more than across it. Kankhal to Shivalik Nagar is about 10 km and Har ki Pauri to the SIDCUL colonies about 12 km. Those are short hops, and a 2 BHK is usually unloaded by afternoon. The slow parts are the Chandi Ghat and Shankaracharya Chowk junctions, the railway crossings on the Jwalapur side and the long carry out of an old city lane. On a snan day, when police close the roads towards the ghats, a move near the river goes on another date.

Har ki Pauri and Upper Road
The main ghat and the bazaar behind it, closed to trucks and crowded from dawn. Goods leave by hand and cycle rickshaw to a vehicle waiting outside the pilgrim zone.
Kankhal
Ashrams, old houses and narrow lanes south of the main ghats. A small vehicle reaches most doors early in the morning, before devotees and school traffic fill the lanes.
Jwalapur
The older trading town, with dense lanes, houses built wall to wall and a crowded main road. The truck parks on the highway side and a pickup shuttles.
BHEL Ranipur township
Sector quarters on a planned grid, with wide roads and a gate at every block. The loading date follows the estate office's inspection.
Shivalik Nagar and SIDCUL
Newer colonies and rented flats beside the industrial estate. A full-size truck gets in easily, though factory shift changes clog the approach roads.
Bhupatwala and the Rishikesh road
Ashrams, dharamshalas and houses along the road north towards Shantikunj. The road is wide but carries buses and pilgrim traffic all day.

Society and building rules
BHEL quarters go back to the township's estate office after an inspection, and staff often need a clearance from their department before the keys are accepted, so we load the day before. Housing in the SIDCUL colonies is mostly rented, and landlords want the rent, the electricity bill and any damage settled before the deposit comes back. The few apartment societies near Shivalik Nagar and on the Delhi road want the date in advance and dues cleared. Ashram and dharamshala rooms follow the manager's rules about when goods may leave.

Where the truck can stand
The old city is where trucks struggle. The lanes behind Upper Road, around Moti Bazaar and in parts of Kankhal and Jwalapur admit nothing wider than a pickup, and some carry only people on foot. Near the ghats, vehicles are stopped at barriers for much of the day. In those places the crew carries, or ferries by rickshaw, to wherever the truck has found an open stretch of road. BHEL, Shivalik Nagar, SIDCUL and the Delhi road colonies are open and flat, and a 17 ft truck reaches the gate.

Traffic and timing
Haridwar's calendar is set by the river. Snan days such as Makar Sankranti, Somvati Amavasya, Ganga Dussehra and Kartik Purnima bring huge crowds and road closures near the ghats. The Kanwar Mela in Shravan, in July or August, fills the Delhi highway with pilgrims for about two weeks, and heavy vehicles are held back, so no long-distance load leaves in those days. A Kumbh or Ardh Kumbh closes much of the city for weeks. Outside those dates, a weekday start at 7 am misses most of the traffic.

Weather and the months to plan around
May and June are the hot months, when the afternoon sun pushes towards 40°C. The crew begins at daybreak and keeps televisions and fridges out of a closed truck at noon. The monsoon runs from late June into September, the Ganga rises high along the ghats, and heavy showers leave water standing on the Jwalapur roads and in low colonies. Humid air marks polished wood, which is packed with a plastic layer. December and January bring cold nights and morning fog on the highways. October, November and the weeks from February to March are the kindest months.

BHEL and SIDCUL transfers run in both directions, and pilgrims who came for a season sometimes stay for years. When people leave Haridwar, the roads lead south to Delhi NCR and Meerut or north to Dehradun, and Rishikesh and Roorkee are close enough to be done between breakfast and dinner.

Our house is in a lane behind Har ki Pauri. How does the truck reach it?
It does not get close, and it does not need to. It waits on the nearest open road outside the barriers, and the crew brings goods out by hand or on cycle rickshaws, starting before the pilgrims arrive. Large pieces are taken apart inside the house. Before quoting we want to see the lane, so a video call from your doorstep helps, and the carry is counted in.
Will the Kanwar Mela hold up my move?
It can. For roughly two weeks in Shravan the Delhi highway and the roads into the city fill with kanwariyas, and heavy vehicles are stopped or diverted. A move within BHEL or Shivalik Nagar may still be possible early in the day, but a load going towards Delhi should leave before the mela starts or after it ends. I work at BHEL and have been transferred. Can the papers be in the company's name?
Yes. BHEL, or whichever unit is paying, can be named on the quote, the item list and the GST bill. With the quarters vacating date and your joining date in hand, we fit the packing into the days between. A car travels separately on a carrier and arrives on its own schedule.
Is a move to Rishikesh or Roorkee a long one?
No. Rishikesh is about 25 km up the river and Roorkee about 30 km down the Delhi road, so either is a single day's work, with packing, the drive and unloading done by evening. The planning goes into the other end, since a Tapovan guesthouse or an IIT quarter each has its own access and rules.
