Shifting homes in Gurgaon
Gurgaon has two kinds of housing, and they make for two different moves. The older sectors and the DLF phases are full of builder floors: four storeys, one flat to a floor, a narrow staircase and a lift that takes four people and not much furniture. The newer sectors along Golf Course Extension Road, Sohna Road and Dwarka Expressway are condominiums with a service lift, a loading bay and a facility office that runs the gate.
A builder floor move is about the staircase. Beds and wardrobes come apart before they go down, the crew is sized for a long carry, and a sofa that went up over the balcony may have to come down the same way. A condominium move is about permissions: the move-out gate pass, the lift booking and the slot you are given, which is enforced to the hour.
Our office at Palam Vihar Extension is run by Subhash. It does the survey, speaks to your facility office and books the slot before moving day. If your employer is paying for the move, the quote, the GST invoice and the inventory are made out in the company's name, which is what a reimbursement file needs.

A move inside Gurgaon is a one-day job for most 2 BHK homes, whether it is a few sectors across or from Palam Vihar out to Dwarka Expressway. The drive is rarely the slow part. Time goes on taking furniture apart for a builder floor staircase, waiting for a service lift, and the evening traffic at Rajiv Chowk and on Golf Course Road. A 3 BHK with heavy furniture is usually packed one day and moved the next.

DLF Phases 1 to 5
Builder floors and independent houses in the older phases, towers in Phase 5. Internal roads in Phases 1 to 3 are narrow, so the truck is chosen to fit the lane.
Golf Course Road and Golf Course Extension Road
High-rise condominiums with service lifts. The facility office wants the crew list and truck number a day ahead and gives a fixed slot.
Sohna Road and South City
Large societies with loading bays, and a long trolley walk from the bay to some of the towers. We count that walk when we size the crew.
Old Gurgaon and Palam Vihar
Sectors 4 to 23 and the old town. Dense lanes, builder floors and cars parked on both sides, so a smaller vehicle often does the last stretch.
Dwarka Expressway and New Gurgaon
Sectors 82 to 113 and the new towers along the expressway. In recently handed-over buildings the builder may still control the lifts, so we check who books them.

Society and building rules
Condominiums here issue a move-out gate pass only once the flat's maintenance dues are cleared, so settle the account with the facility office a few days before, not on the morning of the move. The same office books the service lift and gives you a shifting slot in daytime hours, and some ask for a refundable deposit against damage to the lobby and lift. If you rent, many societies also want a letter from the owner. Builder floors have no office, but the families on the other floors should know that a crew will be on the shared staircase for a few hours.

Where the truck can stand
In a condominium the truck stands at a loading bay or on a service road inside the gate, so parking is settled once the pass is. The old sectors and the DLF phases are harder. Lanes are lined with parked cars and a 17 ft truck may not reach the door, so a smaller vehicle shuttles between your building and the main truck on the nearest wide road. Tell us if your lane has a boom barrier or a guard post, because some RWAs close theirs to trucks after dark.

Traffic and timing
Traffic builds around Cyber City, IFFCO Chowk, Rajiv Chowk and the Golf Course Road junctions in office hours, and a loaded truck crossing the city at 6 pm can lose an hour. We start packing early and try to be on the road before the evening rush. A load going into Delhi waits for the night, because Delhi keeps goods trucks off its roads for most of the day. Weekends and the last few days of the month fill first, so book those a week or more ahead.

Weather and the months to plan around
May and June are the hard months, with afternoons above 45°C, so we load early and do not leave a television or a fridge sitting in a closed truck at midday. In July and August heavy rain floods the underpasses and low stretches around Hero Honda Chowk and parts of Golf Course Road for a few hours at a time, which can hold a truck up. December and January bring smog and dense fog, and fog slows every long-distance load leaving the city at night.

Do you have an office in Gurgaon?

My society will not give me a gate pass. What do I do?
The usual reasons are unpaid maintenance or, if you rent, no letter from the owner. Clear the dues with the facility office and ask your landlord for a short letter or email approving the move, and the pass normally follows. We send the crew names and the truck number to the office the day before so nothing holds us up at the gate.
How do you get furniture out of a builder floor with a small lift?
Beds, wardrobes and the dining table are taken apart in the flat, carried down the stairs and put back together in the new home. If a sofa or an almirah will not fit the stairwell, we check at the survey whether it can come down from the balcony on ropes, and that goes into the quote so there is no surprise on the day.
Can you move me from Gurgaon to Noida or Delhi on the same day?
Yes. Noida, Faridabad and most of Delhi are within about 60 km, which is a local move on our rate card and a one-day job. The one catch is Delhi's restriction on goods trucks during the day, so a load going into Delhi is packed in the daytime and delivered that night or early the next morning.
How much does house shifting cost in Gurgaon?
