Shifting homes in Diu
Diu is an island about 11 km long off the southern tip of Saurashtra, joined to the mainland by bridges, with the fort and old town at its eastern end. The old town is a knot of lanes between painted houses, some grand, with carved doors, balconies and high ceilings, others narrow and tall. Ghoghla, across the creek on the mainland, is a fishing village that also belongs to Diu. The rest of the island is villages, fields, the airport and beach properties.
Work on Diu is mostly the administration, tourism and fishing. Officers and teachers arrive on posting and move on to Daman or Silvassa. Hotels and guest houses bring managers and staff. Many old Diu families have relatives in Portugal, Britain or East Africa, and houses change hands or are closed up when people leave. Moves off the island go mainly to the Saurashtra cities, to Ahmedabad and to Mumbai.
Most old town lanes will not take anything larger than a pickup, and some only a handcart. By the beaches the ground is sand. The sea air rusts metal and dulls electronics, so fridges, washing machines and steel almirahs are wrapped well. And because Gujarat is under prohibition, a truck leaving the island can be checked as it crosses into the state, so liquor stays out of the load.

Packers and movers charges in Diu
Nothing on Diu is far. The old town to Nagoa is about 7 km, to Vanakbara about 12 km, and across the bridge to Ghoghla only a few minutes, so even a full house is in its new place by evening. The slow part is the old town, where the carry to the pickup and its trips to the truck take longer than the drive. Beach houses add a walk over sand. Moves to Una, just inside Gujarat, are short as well.

Diu old town
Lanes around the market and the fort that are too narrow for a truck. Goods go out by pickup or handcart to a wider street near the waterfront.
Ghoghla
The mainland village across the creek, with fishermen's houses packed close together. Trucks keep to the village's main road, and everything is carried to them by hand.
Nagoa and Bucharwada
Beach resorts, guest houses and villas near the airport. The approach roads are fine, but the last stretch to a house by the beach is soft sand.
Vanakbara
The fishing village at the island's western end, busy with the landing of the catch in the morning. We load there in the afternoon.
Fudam and Malala
Villages close to the town, with independent houses and government quarters on quiet roads, where a 14 ft truck can usually reach the gate.

Society and building rules
Diu has few apartment blocks and almost no housing societies, so the paperwork is light. Government quarters are handed back through the administration's own process, with an inspection, and the loading date follows it. Hotel and resort staff quarters are cleared through the property's HR office. In a rented house the owner may be abroad and a relative or caretaker holds the keys, so arrange the handover with them before the day.

Where the truck can stand
A 14 ft truck comes over the bridge and along the island's main road without trouble, and reaches houses in Fudam, Malala and the newer plots. The old town is the exception. Its lanes wind between tall houses, many too narrow for a car, and the truck waits on the wider road outside while a pickup or handcart does the runs. At the beach properties the vehicle stays on the tarmac and the crew carries over the sand.

Traffic and timing
Diu is quiet most of the year and busy in the tourist season from November to February, above all at Christmas, New Year and long weekends, when hotels fill and visitors from Gujarat crowd the roads into town. Weekday moves outside those weeks are simplest. The fish landing makes Vanakbara and the Ghoghla shore busy early in the day. Fishing stops in the monsoon, and the villages are quieter then.

Weather and the months to plan around
Diu is drier than Daman, with a short monsoon from late June to September, though strong winds come with it. The Saurashtra coast gets cyclones in May and June and again after the monsoon, and Cyclone Tauktae crossed the coast near Diu in May 2021. We watch the forecast and move the date when a storm is expected. Summers are humid rather than scorching, in the mid 30s, and the salt air never goes away. November to February is the calmest season for a move.

Can you shift a home inside Diu's old town?
Yes. The truck stays outside the old town, and a pickup or handcart brings the goods out while the crew carries the heavy pieces by hand. Large furniture is taken apart inside the house, since some lanes are narrower than a sofa is long. A survey on video shows us the lane and the doorway before we quote.
Is Diu close to Daman?
No. The two share an administration, but Diu is on the Saurashtra coast and Daman is next to Vapi, about 680 km apart by road. A move between them is a long-distance load of two to three days, and you get a consignment number to track it by. Transfers between the two are planned around the joining date.
Will the sea air damage my appliances during a move?
A move of a day or two does them no harm. Trouble starts when things sit packed for weeks in salty, damp air, so we wrap fridges, washing machines and steel almirahs in bubble wrap and stretch film, and suggest you unpack metal things soon after they arrive.
What happens if a cyclone warning comes near my moving date?
We move the date. Cyclones on this coast are forecast days ahead, and the administration closes the beaches and sometimes the roads when one approaches. A packed load is not left sitting in an open truck, and we plan the new date with you once the warning lifts.
