Shifting homes in Bharuch
Bharuch is one of the oldest towns in India, the port the Greeks called Barygaza, and its old town still climbs the high north bank of the Narmada in lanes of tall houses around Katopor Bazaar. The town has since spread well beyond it, with bungalow societies and apartment blocks at Zadeshwar, on Link Road and around Bholav, and newer towers near the highway.
Industry around the town brings a steady flow of transfers. GNFC's plant and township at Narmadanagar sit on the edge of Bharuch, and the Dahej industrial region, about 45 km west, has petrochemical complexes, an LNG terminal and large chemical and metals plants. Many Dahej staff live in Bharuch and ride the company bus, which is why the societies at Zadeshwar and on Link Road fill with families on postings.
Bharuch also has old families with deep roots in the town. Their houses in the old town are full of heavy furniture and stored things, and the stairs are narrow and steep. A move there takes more time and more hands than a flat on Link Road, and we plan it only after seeing the house.

The day goes on the old town carry, on the highway junctions at peak time, and on the gate at a company township. Steep, narrow lanes on the river bank, with tall houses and wooden stairs. Only a tempo gets close, and the crew carries down to it.
Zadeshwar
A large area of bungalow societies and apartment blocks, popular with Dahej and GNFC staff. Most gates take a 17 ft truck.
Link Road
A busy commercial road with flats above and behind the shops. Loading from the kerb works early, before the shops and the traffic build up.
Bholav
Mixed older and newer housing. Some streets narrow sharply, so we check at the survey which vehicle fits.
Narmadanagar (GNFC township)
A company township with its own gate, estate office and handover inspection. Vehicle and crew details go in before the move.
Shravan Chowkdi and the highway side
New towers and societies near NH 48, easy for a truck but slow at the highway junctions in the evening.

Society and building rules
Societies in Zadeshwar and on Link Road generally want the secretary informed in writing and the move done by day, and a few of the newer towers with lifts take a deposit or want dues cleared before goods leave. GNFC's township and the other company colonies work through their own estate office, with a gate pass and an inspection before the handover. Houses in the old town have no such process, but the lane is shared, so a word with the neighbours helps.

Where the truck can stand
The old town is the hard part of Bharuch for a truck. The lanes near the river are steep and narrow, and a tempo or handcart does the last stretch while the truck waits on a wider road above. In Zadeshwar, on Link Road and in the newer areas, a 14 or 17 ft truck drives right up to the building. On the highway side, a truck may stand on the service road for the loading and no longer.

Traffic and timing
The junctions at Shravan Chowkdi and near the Narmada bridges are Bharuch's worst traffic, especially in the evening when company buses come back from Dahej and Ankleshwar. The old town bazaars fill by late morning. A local move is best started early, and a load leaving for Vadodara or Surat goes out in the morning or late at night. Heavy vehicles are kept out of the town centre for much of the day.

Weather and the months to plan around
Bharuch is humid, and most of its rain falls between late June and September. The old town sits high on the bank, so in a flood year it is the riverside roads below it and the low colonies that take the water, as happened when the Narmada rose in September 2023. We check the river forecast before a monsoon move and wrap everything in plastic under the outer packing. Summers are hot, and the winter months are the gentlest time for a move.

Carefully and with more people. Heavy pieces are taken apart inside the house, carried down the stair and along the lane to a tempo, and driven up to the truck parked on a broader road. We see the house before quoting, and the carry, the shuttle and any extra carpentry are all written into the quote.
We are moving to Zadeshwar for a job at Dahej. Can you move us in from Vadodara?
Yes. It is about 75 km, so we pack in Vadodara in the morning and have everything unloaded in Bharuch by evening. If your new employer is paying, the quote and the GST invoice can be in the company's name. Send us the Bharuch society's shifting rules before the date.
