Newer colonies close to the highway bypass, where the roads widen and parking is easy, and the bypass traffic is the slow part.

Streets by the Swarnala Cheruvu tank, which fill with lakhs of visitors during the Rottela Panduga each year. Moves nearby are kept away from that week.

The colonies and the bypass take a 17 ft truck without trouble. Trunk Road, Stonehousepet and Santhapet are another matter, with narrow streets, shops open from morning to night and nowhere to stop, so a tempo shuttles to a truck parked on a main road. Some older lanes near the river are tight too. After heavy rain, low roads in parts of the city hold water for a day, and we plan the approach around them.

Traffic and timing
The Rottela Panduga at the Bara Shaheed Dargah, held over several days around Muharram, brings lakhs of visitors and closes the roads around Swarnala Cheruvu. The Ranganathaswamy temple festival crowds the riverside, and Sankranti sends families off to their villages. Day to day, traffic is heaviest on Trunk Road, around the RTC bus stand and at the railway crossings at office hours. A weekday morning suits a move best.

Weather and the months to plan around
Nellore is hot and humid. May afternoons pass 40°C with sticky nights, and the crew loads early. The city gets its heaviest rain from the northeast monsoon between October and December, and every few years a cyclone from the Bay crosses this stretch of coast in those weeks, bringing days of rain and flooding along the Penna. We keep November dates flexible and pack everything against damp. January to March is the most comfortable stretch.
