It is mostly independent houses on plots, a few apartment buildings, and the collectorate and district offices with their staff quarters. No railway line reaches the town, so everything comes and goes by road, down the ghat towards Malkapur or across the plateau towards Chikhli.
The district below is busier than the town. Khamgaon is a large cotton and trading town, Shegaon draws pilgrims in huge numbers to the Gajanan Maharaj temple, Malkapur sits on the main railway line, and Lonar near Mehkar has its crater lake. Sindkhed Raja, Rajmata Jijau's birthplace, is in the south of the district close to the Samruddhi expressway.
Arrivals in Buldhana town are largely government postings: collectorate, police, the district hospital and the schools. Buldhana's height keeps it cooler than the plains, and summer afternoons usually stay a few degrees below Akola's, though May can still touch 40°C.
