Society and building rules
Societies in Talegaon range from small buildings run by a few residents to big projects where the builder's maintenance office still controls the gate. Either way, give the office a few days' notice, clear the maintenance account and ask which hours the lift may be used for shifting. Some projects take a refundable deposit, and many want a tenant to bring a letter or email from the owner. In the gaothan there is no office at all, and the people to tell are the neighbours whose doorway the tempo will block for an hour.

Where the truck can stand
Societies on the station side, at Varale and along the old highway usually let a 14 or 17 ft truck in through the gate to park. The gaothan is harder, with lanes that twist between houses and leave no room to turn, so the truck is left beside the main road while a tempo ferries the load to it. On the MIDC road the verges are narrow and buses stop often, so loading is done from a side road where possible. Projects still being built sometimes have unpaved internal roads that turn to mud in July.

Traffic and timing
The Chakan road is two lanes for much of its length and carries container trucks at every hour, so any move heading that way leaves early. Shift changes at the MIDC plants put company buses and a stream of scooters on every road, morning and evening. The old highway at Somatane Phata backs up on weekends with traffic for Lonavala. Inside town, the station road is busiest when commuter trains come in. A weekday start after the morning shift has settled usually gives the smoothest run.

Weather and the months to plan around
Talegaon lies in Maval, where the monsoon is heavy, though a good deal gentler than up on the ghat. From late June to September rain can fall steadily for days, and unfinished roads in new layouts go soft. Cartons get a plastic lining, and furniture is wrapped indoors before it is carried to the truck. April is warm, around 36°C in the afternoons, without the fierce heat of the plains further east. Moving is simplest between November and February, when mornings are crisp and the ground is dry.
