Durga Puja is Cuttack's biggest week, with silver-decorated pandals across the old city, crowds until the small hours and immersion processions that shut the central streets for days. Kali Puja follows soon after. Bali Jatra, which begins on Kartik Purnima in October or November, fills the riverside near Barabati Fort for about a week. On ordinary days Link Road, Badambadi and the bridges are slowest in office hours. Old city moves are loaded early on a weekday.

Weather and the months to plan around
Humidity never really leaves Cuttack, and March to June is hot, with May afternoons passing 40°C. In the monsoon the Mahanadi and the Kathajodi run high between their embankments, and heavy rain fills the low streets of the old city for hours. Cyclones from the Bay, in May and June or October and November, bring wind and days of rain even this far inland, and a warning means the move waits. December to February is the easiest stretch.
