Shifting homes in Gandhidham
Gandhidham was built in the 1950s for Sindhi families who came to India after Partition, and it grew with Kandla, now called Deendayal Port. The town is laid out in sectors and numbered wards, so an address reads like Ward 12B or Sector 8, and Adipur, its twin, is planned the same way. Homes are mostly bungalows on plots, row houses and low apartment blocks, with newer towers on the outskirts.
Nearly everything here connects to the port. Shipping agents, customs brokers, container freight stations and timber yards line the roads to Kandla, and the Kandla Special Economic Zone, one of the oldest in India, has its own units and staff. Salt works, edible oil refineries and logistics firms fill the rest. Port staff live at Gopalpuri, and customs, railway and bank officers are posted here for a few years at a time.
For a move, that means plenty of transfers with fixed dates, and trading families with full houses. The town was rebuilt in places after the 2001 earthquake, and many homes are low and solid, with wide doorways and room at the gate. The hard parts are the port and SEZ gates, the dust, and the long distance to any other big city.

Society and building rules
Bungalows on plots have no society process, and the only courtesy is to the neighbours. Apartment buildings in the newer areas need the secretary told beforehand and usually allow moves only by day, and a few want dues cleared first. Port quarters at Gopalpuri and staff housing in the SEZ or customs colonies go back through their own estate office, with an inspection and a handover date that the loading is planned around.

Where the truck can stand
Gandhidham is one of the easiest towns in Gujarat for a truck. The planned roads are wide, most plots have space in front, and a 17 or 19 ft vehicle can reach almost any house. The exceptions are the busy market streets, where standing time is short, and the port and SEZ areas, where security decides which vehicles may enter and along which route. We ask for those rules when you book.

Traffic and timing
The port runs day and night, and the roads to Kandla and the highway towards Bhachau carry container trucks at all hours, heaviest in the evening. The town's own traffic is lighter, peaking around the main market in the late morning and evening. Port and SEZ gates may limit when a household truck can enter. In summer we load early to finish before the afternoon heat.

Weather and the months to plan around
Gandhidham is hot and dry. May and June afternoons pass 40°C, dust blows in from the salt flats around the creek, and cartons are sealed and upholstery covered before they go on the truck. Rain is scant and irregular, but this coast lies in the path of Arabian Sea cyclones, and the cyclone of June 1998 did great damage at Kandla. November to February is mild and the easiest time to move.

Can you move us between Gandhidham and Adipur?

Is the dust a problem when moving in summer?
