Dev Deepawali in November, the Shravan Mondays and the main bathing days bring so many pilgrims that roads leading to the ghats are shut to vehicles, sometimes all day. The Ganga swells through August and September, and when it runs high the lower ghats and nearby low colonies flood. On the Grand Trunk Road, December and January fog slows trucks overnight, and May and June are fiercely hot.

Our family house is in a gali near the ghats. How will the furniture get in?
By hand for the last part. The truck stops where it is allowed, and the goods move to an e-rickshaw or handcart, then are carried to the door and up the stairs. We look at the gali and the staircase over video before quoting, dismantle large furniture in Pune and add crew for the carry. An early start avoids the worst of the crowds.
Should we avoid a delivery around Dev Deepawali or in Shravan?
If the house is anywhere near the ghats, yes. On the big days, roads towards the river close to vehicles and even a small tempo may not get through. Give us the address when you book and we aim to keep the arrival away from those dates. For homes in Sarnath, Shivpur or on the BHU side, the festivals mostly mean slower traffic.
